Invincible Invincibles Win The Hundred for the Third Year in a Row

Cricket playerFor the third year in a row, the Oval Invincibles have lived up to their name and won The Hundred. Proving their dominance in the 100-ball format of the game, the Invincibles beat the Trent Rockets by 26 runs at Lord’s on 31st August 2025.

In this article, we’ll look back at how the Invincibles conquered all before them in The Hundred, and we’ll look at some of the key run-makers and wicket-takers during the tournament.

How the Invincibles Won The Hundred

Just as when they won the tournament in both 2023 and 2024, the Oval Invincibles finished the league stage at the top of the standings, and hence progressed straight into the final without having to bother with the Eliminator match.

The side took the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach and called upon many of the same players who’d brought success in The Hundred in 2023 and 2024. Continuity tends to be something lacking in squads in this competition but the Invincibles have shown it can prove very beneficial. Sam Billings was again the captain, while the ever-reliable quartet of Will Jacks, Jordan Cox, and the Curran brothers (Sam and Tom) once again proved their value. For the overseas picks, the Invincibles once again went for South African all-rounder Donovan Ferreira, as well as Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan and Aussie bowler Jason Behrendorff.

Oval Invincibles – Results

The Invincibles kicked off The Hundred with the opening match against the London Spirit at Lord’s. The home side won the toss and elected to bat, but new man Rashid Khan immediately vindicated his £120,000 price tag by taking three wickets for just 11 runs off 20 balls. Sam Curran also chipped in nicely with three for 18 as the Invincibles bowled London Spirit out for just 80, the second-lowest score in The Hundred (for a men’s side). Jacks top-scored in the relatively simple run chase as the champions won by six wickets (and they only needed 69 of the 100 balls!).

They took even fewer balls (57) to wrap up victory against Manchester Originals on home turf when chasing down a target of 128. Once again, Khan was the best bowler (3/19) and Jacks top-scored (61 from just 26 balls). Things didn’t go so well in the next game against Birmingham Phoenix at Edgbaston, however. The Invincibles were put in to bat and scored a respectable 180/8 (Ferreira hitting 63 off 29 balls). But in a close-run climax, the Phoenix just edged it with two balls remaining.

Billings’ men got back to winning ways against Welsh Fire (by 83 runs, with Cox hitting a whopping 86 not out off just 29 balls!) and followed up with a seven-wicket victory over Southern Brave and a six-wicket win over Trent Rockets. The Invincibles’ second (and only other) defeat came at Headingley as they went down by 16 runs to the Northern Superchargers, thanks in no small part to Harry Brooks’ 56 from 27 balls. But they finished the league stage as they’d started it: with victory over London Spirit. They finished on 24 points with six wins and two defeats, the same as the runners-up Trent Rockets, but topped the table on the basis of their (significantly) higher Net Run Rate (1.786 to the Rockets’ 0.393) and hence went straight into the final. The Northern Superchargers finished third on 20 and went into the Eliminator.

The Final: Oval Invincibles v Trent Rockets

Invincibles vs RocketsIn the Eliminator, the Northern Superchargers faced the Trent Rockets at the Oval, but it proved a frustrating occasion for the teams and fans alike. The Superchargers batted first but their innings was cut short by rain after 75 balls, from which they’d mustered 119 runs. The Rockets were set a target of 105 runs from 55 balls in the hope the game could be concluded. It wasn’t to be, however, as rain curtailed the Rockets’ innings after just five balls. They wouldn’t have been too disappointed though, as they progressed to the final based on their better league position.

In the final itself, at Lord’s, the Invincibles won the toss and elected to bat. Once again, it was Surrey man Jacks who led the way, hitting 72 runs off 41 balls before getting caught off a Marcus Stoinis ball. Cox also put in a decent knock with 40 off 28 balls, while Zimbabwean Tawanda Muyeye and Sam Curran contributed 15 runs apiece as they reached a total of 168 from their 100 balls.

Star bowler Rashid Khan left to go on international duty after the previous match against the Rockets, and was replaced by Australian Adam Zampa. But it was another Aussie, Nathan Sowter, who did the most damage for the Invincibles as he took three wickets for just 25 runs, and not just any wickets… those of the top three in the order, including a certain England legend, Joe Root.

With the top of the order obliterated by Sowter, and the Rockets on 37/3, things were looking very good for the Invincibles. And even more so when Zampa took the wicket of the Rockets captain David Willey. But Stoinis got himself in and began to make things a little more exciting as he hit 64 off 38 balls. Unfortunately for the chasers, no one was really able to stick around at the crease long enough to form an effective partnership with the powerful Aussie, and their attempt petered out as they reached just 142/8 from their 100 balls, leaving the Invincibles to win by a comfortable 26 runs.

After the dust settled on the Invincibles’ excellent three-in-a-row triumph (three-peat as they call it in America, or going back-to-back-to-back as they seem to favour in Wrexham!), it’s worth looking back at the stars of this year’s tournament. It should come as no surprise that both Jodan Cox and Will Jacks featured in the list of top run scorers, with Cox at the top of the pile with a total of 376.

Player Team Runs High Score
Jordan Cox Oval Invincibles 367 86*
Jos Buttler Manchester Originals 283 70
Zak Crawley Northern Superchargers 280 67*
Will Jacks Oval Invincibles 272 69*
Jonny Bairstow Welsh Fire 248 86*

For the bowlers, Manchester’s Josh Tongue was out in front with 14 wickets, while six players were level on 12 wickets, including both Curran brothers and Rashid Khan for the Invincibles. Khan would no doubt have taken more had he not left the tournament early, but in the end, his services weren’t needed as the Invincibles took their deserved victory.
